How it works
Upon intramuscular injection, incobotulinumtoxinA acts at the neuromuscular junction to inhibit the release of acetylcholine. It specifically cleaves SNAP-25, a protein essential for the successful docking and fusion of acetylcholine vesicles with the presynaptic membrane. This blockade of neurotransmitter release causes a temporary, reversible chemodenervation of the targeted muscle. The resulting localized muscle relaxation leads to a reduction and smoothing of overlying dynamic facial rhytids.
Clinical indications
Xeomin is primarily indicated for the temporary improvement in the appearance of moderate to severe glabellar lines associated with corrugator and/or procerus muscle activity in adult patients. It is administered via intramuscular injection directly into the target muscles. Common off-label aesthetic applications also include the treatment of horizontal forehead lines (frontalis muscle) and lateral canthal lines, also known as 'crow's feet' (orbicularis oculi muscle), to achieve a comprehensive rejuvenation effect.
