What it is
Dysport is a formulation of abobotulinumtoxinA, a purified protein derived from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. Each vial contains 500 units of the neurotoxin complex, along with human albumin and lactose as excipients. It is indicated for the temporary improvement in the appearance of moderate to severe glabellar lines associated with corrugator and/or procerus muscle activity in adult patients.
How it works
Dysport functions by inhibiting the release of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine from presynaptic nerve terminals at the neuromuscular junction. By cleaving SNAP-25, a protein essential for vesicle fusion and neurotransmitter release, it effectively blocks the signal transmission between the nerve and the muscle. This results in a temporary, localized, and reversible reduction in muscle activity, which in turn smooths the overlying skin and diminishes the appearance of dynamic facial rhytides.

Dysport is primarily indicated for the treatment of moderate to severe dynamic rhytides in the upper face. This includes glabellar lines (frown lines), transverse forehead lines, and lateral canthal lines (crow's feet). Injections are administered intramuscularly directly into the target muscles, such as the corrugator, procerus, frontalis, and orbicularis oculi muscles. The precise dosage and injection points are determined by the clinician based on the patient's muscle mass and pattern of facial animation.
